From May 5 to 30, 2026, the Luciana Matalon Foundation in Milan presents Cromofilia 2, a solo exhibition by Sissy DSM Rizzatto, with an exhibition that investigates the construction of the image through color, understood as primary matter and a generative device of form.

Sissy Rizzatto demonstrates a natural inclination towards harmony, but at the same time feels the need to question it. His work thus develops as a continuous dialogue between order and rupture, between composed beauty and critical intervention. In collage works his interest is not in the message or the word, but in color and form. Visual fragments, once subtracted from their original context, lose all representational function to become autonomous elements, pure chromatic and spatial modules. Through digital printing on aluminum, collage is transformed into a stable, almost impersonal object: a “thing” that eliminates traces of the creative process and presents itself as an immediate and completed visual event.

The heart of artistic practice is composition, a moment in which the artist builds complex balances between similar or different elements. The works evoke neo-figurative landscapes, organic structures, landscape or cosmic suggestions, always maintaining a tension between harmony and dissonance. This tension reflects a dual legacy: on the one hand, the tradition of formal balance, and on the other, the influence of Minimalism and Pop Art, which introduce objectivity, detachment, and the use of existing materials.

In recent years, this research has further evolved through the use of acrylic paint, which introduces a more direct and material dimension. While changing technique, the artist keeps his goal central: to make contrasts, both formal and chromatic, compatible. Painted surfaces amplify the comparison between opposing elements, but at the same time seek a visual synthesis capable of holding together even very marked differences. And there is no shortage of play and irony.

In this sense, the most current work also takes on a broader symbolic value: his neo-figurative or abstract paintings become a metaphor for a possible reconciliation of tensions, an attempt to build harmony starting from conflict. In a contemporary context marked by tensions and divisions, Sissy Rizzatto’s practice suggests that even discordant elements can find a balance, without losing their identity but contributing to a common form.

The work is thus configured as a space in which different forms –visual, cultural, emotional– coexist and transform, giving life to a new harmony, no longer given but constructed: dynamic and profoundly necessary.
