The artist
Pierluigi Camicia
Pierluigi Camicia began his concert career in the wake of awards won in highly prestigious National (Treviso) and International Competitions (Busoni, Ciani, Chopin) and with the admiration and esteem of artists such as Rostropovitch, Ferrara, Ciccolini. He pays particular attention to unusual repertoire, in collaboration with renowned soloists and conductors (Ferro, Friedman, Haronovitch, Biscardi, Gusella, Marvulli) and with European and American orchestras; and his work as a chamber musician, together with Michael Flaksman, Ruggiero Ricci, Angelo Persichilli, Felix Ayo, Nina Beilina, and other important artists, becomes an opportunity for multifaceted and fascinating musical offerings.
A professor at the Piccinni Conservatory in Bari since 1973, appointed by the then Director Nino Rota, Pierluigi Camicia was the teacher of a group of talents now at the forefront of international concert music and has recorded music by Chopin, Giuliani, Rota, Grieg, Brahms, Franck, Faurè and Van Westerhout, Scriabin, Tchaykowsky, Mussorgsky.
He plays regularly both as a soloist and with orchestras in Europe, the United States and China, where he is often invited to also give Masterclasses for Universities and Conservatories.
E’ was Artistic Director of the Talos Jazz Festival and is Artistic Director of the Camerata Musicale Salentina in Lecce. He received the NELO FRENI Music Award in 2000.
In 2007 he was appointed, by the Minister for Universities, for “deserved fame” Director of the Tito Schipa Conservatory of Lecce, and confirmed for the following three years.
