The Program

A fascinating journey through some of the most iconic pages of operatic and chamber music repertoire — from the classicism of Mozart and Gluck, to the lyricism of 19th-century Italian opera, and the emotional depth of 20th-century film music.

The Artists

Sugiko Chinen was born in Okinawa (Japan) and studied at the Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo, where she graduated under the guidance of Professors Sakoh Atsushi and Ichiahashi Tetsuo.
Since 1993, she has been based in Italy, studying with S. Marengoni, F. Angeleri, and M. Panciroli. She further refined her skills with Alfredo Speranza and attended numerous masterclasses held by Maestro Aldo Ciccolini.
She has performed widely in Italy, Japan, Spain, France, and Austria. As a soloist, she has collaborated with the Mexican orchestra Camerata in Movimiento (Mozart’s Concerto K.415), the Harmonia Quartet of Milan (Mozart’s Concerto K.413), and the Japanese Okinawa Rossini Choir (Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle), among many other chamber ensembles.
Her passion for chamber music led her to form a piano duo with her husband. From the very beginning of her career, she has dedicated special attention to working with singers, both in Japan and in Italy, deepening her expertise with Maestro E. Furlotti, with whom she also worked as an assistant during his courses in Okinawa. As a collaborative pianist, she has given countless performances in both Italy and Japan.

Romano Pucci is a renowned Italian flutist, best known for his long career as Principal Flute of the Orchestra and Philharmonic of Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
He studied under Maestro Silvio Clerici and graduated with top honors from the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome. His career took off in 1980 when he won First Prize at the International Competition of the Orchestra of the Swiss Italian Radio, establishing him as one of the most brilliant talents of his generation.
Over the years, Pucci has performed with leading Italian and European music institutions, including the Rome Opera House, and has worked under the baton of some of the world’s greatest conductors: Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Carlos Kleiber, and Daniel Barenboim. His performances have taken him on tour throughout Europe, the United States, and Asia.
Beyond his orchestral work, Romano Pucci has also had an intense career as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed with ensembles such as Archi della Scala, with pianist Christina Harnisch, and as a member of Trio Ensemble Classica. His repertoire ranges from classical works to transcriptions, always marked by refined and versatile interpretations that set him apart.
Highly regarded as a teacher, he is on the faculty at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala and regularly gives masterclasses in Italy and abroad.
