Duo Grubi
Blerim Grubi, viola (Kosovo and North Macedonia) – Nita Grubi, piano (North Macedonia)
Viola player Blerim Grubi and pianist Nita Grubi, father and daughter, form a close-knit duo with great musical sensitivity, capable of combining international experience with a deep artistic and family bond.
Blerim Grubi, a leading figure in the Balkan music scene, has been active for over thirty years as a soloist, chamber musician and cultural promoter. Nita Grubi, a brilliant pianist of the new generation, has won numerous international awards and is active as a soloist and in ensembles.
Blerim Grubi, a violist born in 1965, began his musical studies in his hometown, attending the Ilija Nikolovski Lluj music school. He then continued his viola studies at the Faculty of Musical Arts in Skopje, where he graduated in 1989 and completed his postgraduate studies in 1999. He also perfected his training at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena under the guidance of the renowned violist Yuri Bashmet.
His concert career began in the 1980s, with appearances at major festivals such as “Skopje Summer”, “Ohrid Summer”, “Macedonian Music Days” and “Kosovo Music Days”. Since the 1990s, he has performed as a soloist with orchestras including the North Macedonian Philharmonic and the Tirana Opera Orchestra.
In subsequent years, he has participated in numerous international festivals in Europe, Japan and the United States, collaborating with important musicians and taking part in prestigious projects such as the Spectrum Concerts Berlin at the Berlin Philharmonic.
Grubi played a key role in Kosovo’s cultural renaissance after 1999. He is co-founder of the Vivendi ensemble, the Harkor Kosova Trio, the Kosovo Philharmonic Orchestra and the ArsKosova Foundation, which is committed to promoting young talent. He was also one of the creators of the KosovaKamerfest International Chamber Music Festival.
For his contribution to culture and education, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Merit by the President of the Republic of Kosovo in 2016.
Nita Grubi was born in Skopje (North Macedonia) in 1995 into a family of musicians.
She began her studies at the elementary music school in the class of Prof. Ludmilla Romanova, then completed her first year of secondary school with Prof. S.A. Cadikovska. She then continued with Prof. Danica Stojanova at the “Ilija Nikolovski – Luj” music school in Skopje, graduating with top marks.
During this period, she won numerous awards in international piano competitions, including second prize in the prestigious Idrija Competition (Slovenia) in 2013, in the highest category, as well as a special prize for her interpretation of works by Rachmaninoff and D. Scarlatti, awarded by the renowned pianist Arbo Valdma.
In 2014, he won first prize and a special prize for interpretation in the international competition “The New Pianist 2013”, performing as a soloist with the Kosovo Philharmonic Orchestra in Edvard Grieg’s Concerto in A minor for piano and orchestra.
In 2016, he won second prize in the polyphony competition organised by the Faculty of Music in Skopje, with a piece by J.S. Bach.
He has regularly participated in masterclasses and seminars with renowned teachers and pianists such as Arbo Valdma, Andrey Gindin, A. Serdar, Aleksandar Madžar, J. Kott, Derek Han, Ludmilla Romanova, R. Jascha, Stephen Prutsman, N. Tomic, among others.
She completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Faculty of Musical Arts “St. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje, in the class of Prof. Dr. Marija Gjoshevska.
Since 2015, she has been performing regularly in solo recitals and chamber music concerts, both in North Macedonia and abroad.
She currently teaches piano and works as an accompanist at the Ilija Nikolovski – Luj State Music School in Skopje.
In 2018, together with her father Blerim Grubi, a violist, she founded the MUZA cultural association for classical music in Skopje and co-founded the Skupi Kamerfest chamber music festival.
