opening: thursday, March 5, 5:30 PM
From March 6 to 28, 2026, the Luciana Matalon Foundation in Milan will host the exhibition “Form and Color. Art and feeling in a perennial partnership”, which celebrates the creative encounter between Giuseppe Sardisco and Maria Pia Badalucco, protagonists of the Sicilian art scene of the second half of the twentieth century.
For the first time, the exhibition offers a comprehensive reading of their journey, revealing unpublished works and the profound dialogue between two autonomous and complementary research projects, developed over sixty years of activity. This is not just a painting and sculpture exhibition: it is a journey through the vision of two artists, capable of transforming their life experiences and the memory of Sicily into works of intense visual poetry.
Sardisco’s sculptures speak of matter, gesture and space. Every form arises from the interaction between solids and voids and from the contrasts between dynamism and stability, evoking the growth of nature and the inner tension of those who work with matter as a direct language. Bas-reliefs and installations are never decorations: they are living signs of a dialogue with the world, capable of conveying the poetry of everyday life and the contradictions of its homeland.
Badalucco’s painting, on the other hand, transforms color into a sensitive experience. His paintings oscillate between religious apparitions and dream visions, between intensely chromatic landscapes and anthropomorphic figures suspended between figuration and abstract art. The canvas becomes a tool for recounting dream and memory, in a dialogue that unites the Sicilian and Eastern iconographic tradition with a poetic freedom without borders.
The exhibition celebrates an artistic and human partnership that has lasted over sixty years: two parallel and complementary paths that meet without canceling each other out, giving visitors the opportunity to understand how modernity can interact with memory, gesture, and color.
An invitation to discover a comparison between matter and painting, between memory and dream, between Sicily and the world, which continues to speak to the present with strength and poetry.
