Biwa concert – Tashiro Kyokumi

To mark the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Italy, the Luciana Matalon Foundation is hosting an unmissable concert featuring the biwa, the ancient traditional Japanese stringed instrument, performed by Maestra Tashiro Kyokumi.
The evening will be introduced and presented by Alberto Moro, President of the Japan in Italy Cultural Association.
BIO
TASHIRO KYOKUMI
Tashiro Kyokumi has combined her academic studies in musicology with her performance practice, devoting her degree thesis to the biwa. She began studying the Chikuzen Biwa under the guidance of her maternal grandmother, Kubo Chiku, and was awarded the title of master (shihan) in 2000.
Throughout her career, she has performed in numerous concerts in Japan and abroad, and has also taken part in ritual performances and 奉納演奏 (musical offerings) at temples and shrines. She is currently a master at the Chikuzen Biwa Tachibana-ryu school and a senior member of the Nippon Biwa Association.
