The Foundation, located in the historical center of Milan at No. 67 Foro Buonaparte, next to the Sforzesco Castle, was founded by the artist Luciana Matalon with the express intention of creating an exhibition space which is the international 'crossroads' of new ideas, the occasion of visual, emotive and intellectual enrichment. A space not only open to those professionally involved in the arts but also to neophytes looking for cultural suggestions. A place which is not conditioned by tendencies, trends or fashions but which is the testimony of values, open to the public since November 2000.
The museum zone guarantees a space-time continuity for Luciana Matalon's rich artistic production: painter, sculptress, jewels designer. The Foundation possesses a complete archive which is computerized and that can be freely consulted, documenting forty years of the artist's work produced in Europe, America and Japan.
The Foundation promotes exhibitions, meetings/symposiums and initiatives of cultural exchange on an international level. It carries out research and study activities within the contemporary artistic scene, collaborating with Museums and Institutions of various kinds.
The Foundation space, ideated by Luciana Matalon, measures seven hundred square meters on two floors and was restructured in accordance with the most advanced construction techniques. Its modern illumination and safety plant make it suited to whatever exhibition demand.
The artist's pictorial intervention on 130 square meters of the floor, covered in epoxide resin, transparent and reflecting, follows a 'course' that began in 1968 with a poem by Guido Ballo and continues with thoughts, notes and verses by the artist and by writers - 'fellow travelers - including Roberto Sanesi, Arturo Schwarz, Armando Ginesi, Alberico Sala, Miklos Varga and Vittoria Palazzo, to mention only a few. A series of Italian and international newspaper and magazine cuttings, fixed to the floor, testify to Matalon's artistic activity. This is followed by a long painted 'staircase-ferry' which leads to an 'astral city' illuminated with optical fibers, stellar presences in the abysmal void.
